TIG welding

TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welder, also known as arc welding with a tungsten electrode in an inert gas shield. It is a welding method that joins metals by melting a tungsten electrode and a base material. This is done using an electric arc that is surrounded by an inert gas, most often argon. Unlike MMA welding, TIG welding requires precise control over welding parameters. This involves current, voltage and gas flow, which allows for higher weld quality and lower distortion of the base material.

Equipment and tools

TIG welding uses similar tools as in other welding methods. This will include a TIG welder, a tungsten electrode, inert gas, protective gloves and a welding mask. However, the TIG welding process requires greater precision and manual skills. This is due to the need to control the manual movement of the tungsten electrode and stabilize the arc.

The TIG method is used to weld various parts, elements and installations. This applies to steel structures, pipes and pipelines, machine elements and structural elements in the aerospace industry. Metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum and their alloys can be TIG welded. However, some metals, such as wrought iron, prove more difficult to weld using this method. This is due to their physical and chemical properties.

TIG welding – Requirements for the candidate

The ideal candidate for the position of a TIG welder should have appropriate professional qualifications in the field of welding. Additionally, experience in TIG welding. Moreover, he should have the ability to read technical drawings and knowledge of work safety rules. Finally, manual skills to precisely guide the tungsten electrode and stabilize the arc.

Depending on the workplace, a TIG welder engages in different tasks. On a construction project, he may be responsible for welding and assembling steel structures, pipes and pipelines, according to construction plans. In an industrial company, it contributes to the production of metal components, specializing in a specific type of welding or materials, depending on the needs of the company and the industry.
